Four Anti-Gun Bills in California

!!!IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED!!!

The following four bills that negatively affect the ability of sportsmen and other firearms enthusiasts to buy guns and ammunition will be voted on in Legislative Committees very soon! Your help is needed to defeat them! Please contact your State Senator and Assembly member today! Timing is critical!!!

AB 962 (De Leon) Ammunition -- Would require that firearms dealers and other vendors of ammunition keep a registry of all buyers of handgun ammunition and make it available to any law enforcement officer upon request.

The bill would further require that any person who sells or transfers more than fifty rounds (one box) of handgun ammunition in a month obtain a handgun ammunition vendor's license from the State Department of Justice. The Department would be required to maintain records of all ammunition vendors.

AB 962 would also ban all mail order and internet sales of handgun ammunition and reloading components.

Location:Senate Appropriations Committee Suspense File
Timetable: Could be taken up during the week of August 24.
Position: Opposed.

Please start contacting senators on the appropriations committee today

SB 41 (Lowenthal) Firearms - Would require licensed firearms dealers to maintain information on the date of delivery of a rifle, shotgun or handgun to a buyer, including those used by sportsmen. Requires dealers to sign and to obtain the signature of the buyer or other transferee of a handgun on the Department of Justice Dealers Record of Sale (DROS) form indicating that the handgun has been delivered and the date upon which the delivery was made. Would further require dealers to date and sign a form stating that the buyer of a rifle or shotgun had taken possession of the gun.

The new signature requirements would be a burden that could easily be overlooked by an employee thereby placing the dealers' license in jeopardy of being suspended or revoked. It will increase the costs of buying a firearm due to increased dealer costs and the government imposed DROS Fee would likely increase due to added enforcement tasks.

Location: Assembly Appropriations Committee
Timetable: may be heard August 19, 2009.
Position: Opposed.

Please start contacting members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee today.

SB 585(Leno) Agricultural District 1-A: firearm sales at the Cow Palace - Would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Cow Palace exhibition facility near San Francisco, located in Agricultural District 1-A, and would make a violation of that prohibition a crime. Its purpose is to ban gun shows at the Cow Palace and to set a precedent for the banning of all gun shows at other state owned facilities throughout California where many sportsmen buy firearms and ammunition. It was recently amended to allow a phase out of gun shows by authorizing up to five gun shows per year, but deleting one each time a new event is booked, thus eventually reducing the number of authorized gun shows at the Cow Palace to zero.

Location: Assembly Floor
Timetable: Likely to be taken up on August 17-September 11.
Position: Opposed.

Please contact your assembly member today.

SB 250(Florez) Dogs: spaying and neutering - Would provide that no person shall own, keep, or harbor an unaltered or unspayed dog older than six months of age unless they obtain an unaltered dog license from their local government licensing agency. Also, the bill allows local governments to refuse to issue any unaltered dog licenses, thus requiring every dog owner to have their dog spayed or neutered. There are some exceptions for hunting dogs, but they are insufficient and more are needed! The bill would allow an unaltered dog license to be denied or revoked for a variety reasons, and permit the licensing agency to utilize its existing procedures for any appeal of a denial or revocation of an unaltered dog license.

Location: Assembly Appropriations Committee Suspense File
Timetable: Likely to be taken up August 27, 2009.
Position: Opposed.

Please contact members of the Assembly Appropriations Committee today.

IT IS CRITICAL THAT ALL SENATORS AND ASSEMBLYMEMBERS ON THE ABOVE REFERENCED COMMITTEES BE IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED!!!

Correct. Nothing else will solve any of our problems.

No amount of bogus "TEA" parties will ever solve a single issue.
